About Robert

Robert spent over 40 years fighting to defend our Constitution rights, primarily in Stanislaus County.

He was raised by a career Navy Officer and a mother who grew up in El Paso, Texas with immigrant parents from El Salvador and Mexico. As a garment worker Robert’s mother met his father at a USO dance. His father served in both World War II and Korean War. His parents instilled a sense of duty to county and community.

Robert served during the Vietnam War as a Captain of the U.S. Air Force. After his tour, he attended California Western School of Law on the GI Bill.

After passing the bar, Robert served as counsel for the California Agriculture Labor Relations Board. In that capacity he worked with labor leaders, including Cesar Chavez, to ensure that farm workers were treated fairly.

Robert served as a public defender in Stanislaus County and opened his law firm. He currently serves as President of the Stanislaus County Criminal Courts Bar Association and is a member of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, and the California Public Defenders Association.

Robert and his wife, Elaine, live in Modesto. He has two grown children, including a son who served in the Gulf during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
